Welcome to the Mendocino Coast Broadband Alliance (MCBA) home page. MCBA has been working to bring broadband to all residences and businesses since 2007. Look at the About Us page for the background on what we have done, and the many other helpful pages on this website. MCBA continues to work on the behalf of the coastal population to get everyone connected to some form of Broadband, and we are now part of the county-wide committee Broadband Alliance of Mendocino County. For your information, Broadband is now defined as “the means of transporting data/information quickly from one point to another”. Broadband “means” include DSL (over phone lines), cable, wireless, cellular modems, and satellite. It is high speed Internet, and lots more – telephone service, television, and emergency services all use the same “pipeline”. Most communication is being transferred to broadband. The presentation BAMC made to the Board of Supervisors on May 24, 2011, that gives the overview of broadband and its challenges – presentation PDF.

YOUR HELP IS VITAL TO THE SUCCESS OF GETTING YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY SERVED
The BAMC Technology Committee needs to see where the unserved areas are, as well as those that are served and by which provider to make accurate maps. This is very important to our ability to show the true status of the County’s lack of broadband coverage on Federal and State maps. Approximately 50% of the population is UN-served situation. Those maps currently show the County as more than 80% served. We may not get the money we need if we do not correct the data. Taking the survey will give a more accurate need by area so we can get the infrastructure projects going. Please take the survey for both your residence and business, if you have one.
Besides taking the survey, you can
DONATE YOURSELF!

There are many ways to help this all volunteer effort.
- be a community representative for your area to be sure it is on the BAMC project list
- join a specialized sub-committee in your area of expertise or interest that does not require a lot of meetings
- keep an eye out for possible funds for broadband deployment
It will take every community’s involvement
to get the County connected!
Remember the SURVEY! THANKS!

Please keep me advised of any progress on this issue. I have lived in quiet frustration, as not a lot of folks here realize an ISP is available to them.
This is an essential quality of life vehicle.
Thank you so much for addressing this critical issue!
